Every year on July 28th, the annual festival of Shiobara Onsen Kawasaki Daishi Yakuyoke Fudo Son is held in Nasushiobara, Tochigi Prefecture. This sacred event follows a series of rituals beginning in the Shiobara Onsen area, moving to the mid-slope of Mount Fuji, and culminating at the sacred site at the summit.
The ceremony begins with the 'Oneri' procession through the Shiobara Onsen village, followed by the 'Shaito Daima-goma' (a sacred fire ritual) at the mid-slope of Mount Fuji. The event reaches its climax with a grand fire ritual performed before the deity at the sacred summit.
The most striking feature of this festival is the movement through different elevations. The procession through the charming Shioborn Onsen village and the powerful fire rituals performed in the natural environment of Mount Fuji offer a unique glimpse into Japanese mountain worship and the harmony between nature and faith.
