The Sarugakyo Akagari-ko Fireworks Display is held at Lake Akagari in the Sarugakyo Onsen area of Minakami, Gunma Prefecture. This event is characterized by fireworks launched from a pier on the lake, set against the beautiful natural backdrop of Lake Akagari. Hosted by the 'Sarugakyo Onsen Yado Club'—a group of local inns and ryokans—the event is held to express gratitude to the many visitors who enjoy the area's hot springs and accommodations. The sight of brilliant fireworks reflecting on the water's surface creates a truly magical atmosphere.
The biggest highlight is the 'lake-surface' launch. Unlike standard ground-based displays, the light from the fireworks reflects off the vast surface of Lake Akagari, doubling the visual impact. A rich palette of gold, white, blue, and red colors the quiet lakeside night. In the past, the event has sometimes included traditional Japanese summer elements like Bon Odori dances.
