Event Overview

Sake Matsuri is a historic festival held in the Saijo district of Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima, celebrating the rich culture of Japanese sake. Originally formed by the merger of two local celebrations, it has grown into a massive event attracting approximately 200,000 visitors over two days. It is a 'festival for everyone,' meaning even those who do not drink alcohol or families with children can enjoy the festive atmosphere. The 2026 theme, "ã‚‘" (E), focuses on the connections between people, the local community, and the future.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The entire Saijo area comes alive with the passion of sake lovers. The biggest highlight is the 'Sake Hiroba,' where you can enjoy a wide variety of sake brands from all over Japan in one place. During the festival, the historic 'Saijo Brewery Street' becomes a pedestrian-only zone, allowing you to stroll through the charming streets while enjoying special events, tastings, and sales hosted by various breweries.

Beyond the sake, you can enjoy local specialties like 'Bishu Nabe' (delicious sake-based hot pot), the 'Waku Waku Kids Plaza' for children, and various stage performances featuring music and local culture. It is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your knowledge of sake while experiencing the local food and the spirit of connection.

Venue & Access

The main festivities are centered around Saijo Chuo Park and the Saijo Brewery Street area.

By Train

  • *JR Saijo Station**: Approximately a 1-minute walk to the main venue (Saijo Chuo Park). This is the most convenient option.
  • *From Hiroshima Station**: About 40 minutes via the JR Sanyo Line.
  • *From Mihara Station**: About 40 minutes via the JR Sanyo Line.

By Shinkansen, Flight, or Bus

  • *Higashihiroshima Station**: Approximately 20 minutes by local bus or taxi from the station (accessible via Shinkansen 'Kodama) service.
  • *Hiroshima Airport**: Approximately 25 minutes to Saijo Station via Limousine Bus.

By Car (Temporary Parking)

The area is extremely crowded, so please use the designated temporary parking.

  • *Location**: Hiroshima University North 3rd Parking Lot (approx. 3km south of the National Route 2 bypass).
  • *Parking Fee**: 1,000 JPY per day.
  • *Shuttle Bus**: A free shuttle bus runs from the parking lot to the venue approximately every 15 minutes.

Important Tips for Visitors

To enjoy the sake tasting at 'Sake Hiroba,' you must purchase a ticket in advance or on the day of the event. The famous 'Bishu Nabe' is typically served in groups of 4 people per table and has a 105-minute time limit. Because it is highly popular, we recommend planning ahead. For those traveling by large bus or microbus, please complete the necessary reservation procedures in advance, as specific parking (Hiroshima University South 2nd Parking) must be used.
