Event Overview

Located within the Genkai Quasi-National Park at Hado Misaki Beach in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, the Chonsei-cho Summer Festival (Hado Misaki Fireworks Display) is a beautiful way to mark the end of summer. Approximately 1,000 fireworks will light up the sky, set against the stunning scenery of the Genkai Sea and the glowing lights of fishing boats on the water. Unlike massive urban festivals, this event offers a more relaxed, intimate atmosphere that feels deeply connected to nature.

There are several special displays that make this event truly unforgettable:

  • *Mountain-shaped Niagara**: A signature spectacle of this event is the massive waterfall of light that cascades along the coastline, creating a dreamlike reflection on the sea surface.
  • *Massive 2-shaku Shells**: Experience the sheer power of one of the largest firework shells in Saga Prefecture. The massive blooms and the deep, vibrating boom are truly awe-inspiring.
  • *Heart-shaped Fireworks**: Inspired by the romantic reputation of Hado Misaki (often called 'Heart Cape'), special heart-shaped fireworks will appear, making it a favorite for couples and families.
  • *Relaxed Viewing Style**: The sandy beach and grassy areas serve as the viewing areas. You can bring a leisure sheet (picnic blanket) to lie down and enjoy the fireworks in a completely relaxed, open-air setting.

Schedule

The event is scheduled for August 29, 2026. The fireworks are expected to launch from 20:00 to 20:30 (approx. 30 minutes). Please note that in the event of bad weather, the display may be postponed to August 31 (Monday).

Venue & Access

The venue is Hado Misaki Beach. Access details are as follows:

  • *By Train & Bus**: From JR Karatsu Station, take a bus from the Karatsu Oteguchi Bus Center to the 'Hado Misaki' stop (Showa Bus). The trip takes about 50 minutes, followed by a 5-minute walk.
  • *By Car**: It is approximately a 40-minute drive from the Karзь IC on the Nishi-Kyushu Expressway. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach from Fukuoka City.

Tips for Visitors

While there are approximately 450 free parking spaces available, they begin to fill up around 17:00. If you wish to enjoy the sunset or dinner before the show, we recommend arriving by 16:00. Since the viewing area consists of sand and grass, bringing a picnic blanket will make your experience much more comfortable.

What to Bring & Etiquette

  • *Essentials**: Since you will be sitting on the beach or grass, a leisure sheet or folding chair is highly recommended. As the sea breeze can be cool at night, bringing a light jacket or shawl is a good idea.
  • *Payment**: Food stalls will be available around the venue. We recommend carrying cash for any food or drink purchases.
  • *Reservations**: There are no paid reserved seating areas. All viewing is free, but arriving early is key to securing a good spot.
