Guide
RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL (commonly known as RSR) is one of Japan's largest outdoor all-night rock festivals, held at Ishikari Wan Shinko in Ishikari, Hokkaido. Since its inception in 1999, it has become legendary for its unique style of staying up through the night to welcome the 'Rising Sun' together with music. The venue is a vast industrial space transformed into a festival wonderland with multiple stages, a tent village, food stalls, and merchandise areas, offering a full-scale camping and music experience.
The biggest draw is the spectacular sunrise. The festival features a genre-less lineup ranging from rock and techno to rave, allowing you to immerse yourself in music all through the night. Staying at the 'Tent Sites' is incredibly popular, as it allows you to experience the festival with a full camping vibe. With multiple stages running simultaneously, you can explore different musical worlds and find your own perfect moment.
The main event begins on Saturday night and continues through to the sunrise on Sunday. While the festival is typically held in August, please check the specific dates for 2026. The core program runs from the start of the live performances until the following morning's sunrise.
The venue is the Ishikari Wan Shinko (Special Outdoor Stage) in Ishikari, Hokkaido. The festival utilizes a vast, open industrial area. While parking and camping areas are provided on-site, they become extremely crowded, so planning your arrival and transport in advance is essential.
Tent site tickets are highly sought after and often sell out instantly every year. If you plan to enjoy the festival in a camping style, early preparation and securing your tickets well in advance are mandatory. The music is not limited to rock; expect a wide variety of performances including techno and rave, making it a diverse experience for all music lovers.
As this is an all-night outdoor event, proper clothing and gear are vital. Prepare for significant temperature drops at night and potential weather changes by bringing warm layers and rain gear. Please check the official website for the latest information regarding ticket sales, parking, and tent site reservations.
