Oiyamakasa Narashi is a crucial preparatory event for the Hakata Gion Yamakasa, one of Fukuoka's most iconic traditional festivals. It serves as a rehearsal for the grand finale, 'Oiyama.' A major highlight is the sight of the 'Running Decorative Yamakasa'—magnificent floats that race through the streets of the Kamikawa-bash-dori area, overwhelming spectators with their speed and scale. This is a rare chance to experience the intense energy of the festival before the main event.
The main attraction is the sheer dynamism of the massive floats racing through the city. You can watch the beautifully decorated floats, adorned with intricate dolls and ornaments, move with incredible speed. Watching the different groups (Nagare) perform their 'Kushida-iri' (entry into Kushida Shrine) and navigate the course is a breathtaking spectacle.
