Oita "Yume" Hanabi Fireworks Display
5 min readEvent Overview
Oita "Yume" Hanabi is a premier large-scale fireworks event held along the Oita River, flowing through the heart of Oita City. This spectacular event combines the power of 8,000 traditional fireworks with a high-tech drone show, transporting visitors into a dreamlike world. It is one of the most highly anticipated summer events in Oxta Prefecture.
Highlights & What to Expect
The main attraction is the breathtaking harmony between the 8,000 fireworks and a massive drone show featuring approximately 1,300 drones. The drones create giant shapes and patterns in the sky, and the event often includes interactive elements like the "Great Sky Chorus," where the audience joins in a collective experience. It is a multi-sensory masterpiece of light and sound set against the beautiful backdrop of the Oita River.
Date & Schedule
The event will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 19:30.
Venue & Access
The venue is the area upstream of Benten Bridge on the Oita River.
Expect heavy crowds around the venue. Public transportation is highly recommended, but please check the latest transit information in advance as schedules may change due to weather or event adjustments.
Participation Tips
Paid viewing sections (reserved seating) may be available. These often require a pre-event lottery system. It is essential to check the official website for specific sales periods and purchasing methods. Since pre-events like drone demonstrations may occur, arriving early can enhance your experience.
What to Bring, Clothing & Etiquette
- *Clothing**: As the event takes place at night near a river, we recommend comfortable clothing suitable for changing temperatures. Please bring a raincoat or poncho; umbrellas are prohibited as they obstruct the view of others.
- *Essentials**: Viewing areas do not provide seating. Since the ground may be gravel or grass, bringing a leisure sheet (picnic blanket) or cushions is highly recommended. Large chairs, tables, parasols, tents, and any cooking equipment (stoves, etc.) are prohibited.
- *Payment & Reservations**: Please check the official website for the latest information regarding ticket sales and specific rules. The resale of tickets is strictly prohibited by law.
- *Etiquette**: Pets are not allowed. If using a tripod, please keep it at a low height (roughly eye-level when seated) to avoid blocking the view of surrounding guests.
