Event Overview

The Meiji Festival and Manyo Gagaku-kai is a significant ceremony honoring the achievements of Emperor Meiji and praying for national prosperity. Held annually on November 3rd, 'Culture Day,' at the Manyo Botanical Garden within Kasuga Taisha in Nara, this special day features the dedication of Gagaku (classical instrumental music) and Bugaku (dance), allowing visitors to deeply connect with Japan's spiritual and musical heritage.

The main attraction is the performance of Gagaku and Bugaku on the historic floating stage of the Manyo Botanical Garden. Location: Manyo Botanical Garden, Kasuga Taisha

  • *By Bus**:
  • From Nara Station (JR Yamatoji Line/Kintetsu Nara Line), take the Nara Kotsu Bus (bound for Kasuga Taisha Honden) for approx. 11–15 mins. Get off at 'Kasuga Taisha Honden' and walk 3 mins west via the-approach.
  • From Nara Station, take the Nara Kotsu Bus (City Loop Outer Route) for approx. 9–13 mins. Get off at 'Kasuga Taisha Omotesando' and walk 3 mins east.
  • *Walking**: Approx. 25 mins walk from Kintetsu Nara Station.
  • *By Car**: Approx. 7km south from Kizu IC (Kyona-wa Expressway) or 8km east from Borai IC (Dai-2 Hanna Expressway).

Important Notes

To watch the Manyo Gagaku-kai (starting at 13:00), you must enter the Manyo Botanical Garden. We recommend arriving early to enjoy the serene atmosphere and the beautiful autumn scenery.
