Matsue Matsuri Dogyoretsu is a cherished traditional event held in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture. In the Izumo region, large drums are called 'Do.' This festival is characterized by the sight of massive 'Do' drums—standing between 1.2 to 1.8 meters tall—mounted on floats (Dogyu or Dogudai) and paraded through the streets to the sound of rhythmic drumming.
The origins of this procession date back to the 'Sagicho' (Tondo) New Year rituals. The current format evolved around 1915, following the enthronement of the Emperor. It is a deeply rooted cultural event designated as a tangible folk cultural property of Matsue City.
The main highlight is the sight of the giant 'Do' drums and the resonant sound of the drumming. Seeing the massive floats, with drums up to 1.8 meters tall, parading through the historic streets of Matsue is a view unique to this region. The procession, involving people of all ages, preserves the traditional spirit of the Izumo region's festivals.

There are no designated spectator seats; most people watch the procession from the sides of the route. This allows you to feel the vibration of the massive drums up close. Knowing the route (from Matsue Castle toward Matsue Ohashi Bridge and Shiragata Tenmangu Shrine) will ensure a smoother experience.
