Kurayoshi Obuki Matsuri is a cherished traditional summer festival held in Kurayoshi, Tottori Prefecture. The event features a variety of programs including the powerful parade of the "Ushiki" (ox demon) and "Onna Mikoshi" (female portable shrine), the traditional "Mitsuboshi Odori" dance, and the stunning "Hiten Fireworks Display" that lights up the night sky. This vibrant event is a perfect way to experience the local culture and the passion of the community.
The festival unfolds over two distinct days with different charms:
Around the Kurayoshi Ginza Street area, you can witness the imposing Ushiki demon and the energetic Onna Mikoshi being carried through the streets. The atmosphere is filled with the rhythmic sounds of flutes and drums from the "Obuki Doji Hayashi" and other musical troupes. A major highlight is the "Mitsuboshi Odori," a traditional dance designated as an intangible folk cultural property of Kurayoshi, showcasing elegant movements that tell the city's history.
The festival reaches its climax with the "Hiten Fireworks Display" held at the riverbed near Kurayoshi Ohashi Bridge. The magnificent fireworks launched into the night sky create a breathtaking spectacle, painting the sky with vibrant colors and bringing the festival to an unforgettable end.

As the areas are expected to be very crowded, we recommend using public transportation and arriving early.
To fully enjoy the energy, it is helpful to know the parade routes and the firework launch locations in advance. The area around Ginza Street becomes very lively during the Ushiki and Onna Mikoshi parades. For the fireworks, please note that the riverbed area may be dark at night; prepare accordingly for safety.
