Guide
Kunimi Town in Fukushima Prefecture is a region with a rich history, once a site of intense battles during the Oshu campaigns. To honor the many legends of Minamoto no Yoshitsune that remain in this land, the 'Yoshitsune Matsuri' is held on September 23, coinciding with 'Kunimi Day.' This event is a significant traditional celebration symbolizing the local historical heritage.
The main highlight is the 'Yoshitsune Koko Gyoretsu' (Yoshitsune Procession). Watch as performers dressed as historical figures like Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Shizuka Gozen parade through the town, creating a sense of stepping back in time. Pay close attention to the beauty of their costumes and elegant movements.
Additionally, the area around the venue becomes incredibly lively with over 60 food stalls. You can experience the local food culture while soaking up the energetic festival atmosphere.
This event will be held on September 23, 2025 (Tuesday). Please note that the festival is held for one day only.
