The Karasade-sai Festival is the most significant ritual of the Mankusensha Shrine, held during the lunar 10th month known as "Kamiari-zuki" (the Month of the Gods). This period marks the climax of a sacred season when thousands of deities gather in the region to pray for national peace and bountiful harvests. During this time, the shrine grounds are kept in a state of absolute purity and silence to honor the presence and departure of the gods.
The most breathtaking moments occur on the evening of the 26th with the "Yutate Shinji" and "Karasade Shinji" rituals. The Yutate Shinji is a sacred purification ceremony where water is boiled over a ritual fire to cleanse the participants and the sacred space. Following this, the Karasade Shinji takes place in the profound darkness. The high priest performs a unique ritual, striking the shrine doors with a plum branch while chanting "Otachi," a solemn gesture that signals the deities' departure from the Izumo region.
Another unique attraction is the "Kamiari Mikuji" (Divine Fortune). This traditional method of divination, once used to predict the success of rice harvests, has been adapted for modern times. After undergoing a purification ritual at the reception, you can wait in quiet contemplation for your fortune to be revealed—a meditative experience that transcends daily life.

The event is held at Mankusensha Shrine. Please be aware that during this period, the weather often turns volatile (strong winds, heavy rain, or snow) due to a phenomenon called "Omi-are," believed to be caused by the departing gods. The Karasade-sai is an extremely sacred ritual. Because the ceremonies are conducted in profound silence, visitors are expected to maintain strict decorum, avoid loud noises, and show utmost respect. If you wish to experience the Kamiari Mikuji, please complete the reception and purification process first, then wait quietly for your fortune to be revealed.
