Event Overview

Kaminari Bon Odori ~Yume Toro~ is a special event held on the iconic street directly in front of Kaminarimon Gate, the symbol of Asakusa, Tokyo. This festival serves as a grand finale to the summer season, blending the lively atmosphere of Senso-ji Temple with the beauty of traditional 'E-Doro' (illuminated picture lanterns) gifted from Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture. Organized by local merchant associations, this event transforms the historic streets of Asakusa into a dreamlike, illuminated landscape.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The main attraction is the breathtaking display of 'E-Doro.' Thanks to a cultural exchange with Yuzawa City, 21 exquisite illuminated picture lanterns will light up the pathway, creating a beautiful glow throughout the night. The festival kicks off with a powerful musical performance by the JGSDF (Japan Ground Self-Defense Force) 1st Division 1st Band, adding a grand sense of ceremony. Visitors can also explore various exhibits, including JGSDF vehicles, PR booths from the Ministry of Defense, police, and fire departments, as well as local government booths from Akita Prefecture. Whether you are joining the energetic Bon Odori dance circle or participating in local merchant raffles, there is plenty to experience with all your senses.

Tips for Visitors

The streets will be very crowded. If you are taking photos of the beautiful lanterns, please be mindful of other pedestrians. Since there are various activities like the military band and vehicle displays, we recommend moving around the venue to catch different highlights at their scheduled times.
