Event Overview

"Kamiari-sai" is a sacred week-long event where the myriad deities (Yaoyorozu-no-kami) from across Japan gather in Izumo. While the rest of Japan calls the lunar October "Kannazuki" (the month without gods), the Izumo region calls it "Kamiarizuki" (the month when gods arrive). The deities gather to hold a divine meeting called "Kamuhakari" to discuss the connections, prosperity, and lives of people for the coming year. Centered around Izumo Taisha, the ritualistic flow—from welcoming the gods at Inasa Beach to their departure—breathes life into Japanese mythology.
