Event Overview

Jishu Matsuri is a traditional annual festival held on May 5th at Jishu Jinja, located in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto. The origins of this festival date back approximately 1,000 years to the year 970. It is said to have begun as a special ritual ordered by Emperor Enyu during a visit, establishing it as a highly prestigious event with deep imperial connections. Today, it remains one of Kyoto's most significant celebrations for praying for family safety, prosperity, and especially for 'en-musubi'—the blessing of good matches and destined relationships.
