Rocky Shore Creature Observation Tour

Event Overview

This is an immersive marine life observation event held at Sabiura Coast, located right in front of Kushimoto Kaichu Park. This area is characterized by complex topography and coral skeletons brought by the waves, all influenced by the powerful Kuroshio Current. A professional aquarium keeper will serve as your guide, teaching you how to find and identify various creatures hiding in the tide pools. It is an educational and fun program designed for both adults and children to experience the wonders of nature up close.

The biggest draw is the chance to search for sea creatures on the actual shoreline alongside professional aquarium keepers. It is a rare opportunity to apply the knowledge you may have gained from aquarium exhibits to a real-world natural environment. The landscape changes dramatically with the tides, revealing different creatures at different times. As you observe the diverse organisms gathered in the tide pools, you will gain a fun, practical understanding of how the natural world works.

Venue: Sabiura Coast (in front of Kushimoto Kaichu Park).

Please meet at the main entrance of the aquarium.

Participation Details

This event is limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. To participate, you must complete your reservation via the official online form by 5:00 PM the day before the event. The program is open to elementary school students and older; however, elementary and junior high school students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. As spots fill up quickly, early booking is highly recommended.

What to Bring & What to Wear

As this activity takes place on the shoreline, please wear clothing that you do not mind getting wet. We recommend bringing water shoes or marine boots to protect your feet, as well as a towel and drinks. Bringing items like a small net, a bucket, and gloves (work gloves) will also enhance your observation experience.
