Guide
Join the Hobiki-sen Model Boat Workshop in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki, to learn the art of crafting a traditional 'Hobiki-sen' (sailing boat). This workshop is led by members of the Kasumigaura Hobiki-sen Preservation Society, who will teach you the authentic techniques used to preserve this traditional fishing method. It is more than just a craft class; it is a deep immersion into the history and maritime culture of the region.
The greatest charm of this workshop is the chance to receive direct instruction from the preservation society members who keep these traditions alive. You will experience the rewarding process of recreating the elegant shape of a traditional boat with your own hands. The finished model serves as a beautiful piece of art reflecting Japanese craftsmanship. It is a wonderful way to learn about the wisdom of ancient fishing methods and the water-based culture of Japan.
