Hirose River Torou Nagashi
5 min readEvent Overview
Hirose River Torou Nagashi is a signature summer tradition in Sendai, honoring a spirit of community and service that dates back to the Edo period. The sight of lanterns carrying prayers and wishes floating down the Hirose River creates a breathtaking, ethereal atmosphere. To ensure a safe and comfortable experience, the event now operates on a strict ticket-only system.
Highlights & How to Enjoy
The main highlight is the "Evening of Light, Water, and Concerts." The reflection of countless lanterns on the water creates a mesmerizing path of light. The experience reaches a climax with the "Message Fireworks," where fireworks are launched to honor memories and prayers, perfectly synchronized with the floating lanterns. Guests can also enjoy live music from local artists and special entertainment shows.
