Hippare! Keppare! Hirosaki Castle Festival

This special event celebrates the historic movement (Hikimodoshi) of the Hirosaki Castle keep as part of the main castle stone wall repair project. For the first time in 10 years, the castle keep will be moved back to its original position. The festivities feature a wide range of programs across the vast Hirosaki Park, including night-time illuminations, drone shows, and water activities.

- *Tenshu Hikimodoshi Experience**: Feel the thrill of history up close as the castle keep is moved using traditional techniques (Note: Some activities require advance application and a lottery system).
- *Special Nighttime Displays**: Experience a magical atmosphere with projection mapping on the castle keep, a dazzling drone show, and fireworks that light up the night sky.
- *Diverse Activities**: Enjoy various activities with family and friends, such as traditional Japanese boat tours in the West Moat, canoeing in the Middle Moat, and a tug-of-war competition at the Shinomaru Recreation Plaza.
- *Traditional Culture Experiences**: Connect with local heritage through bamboo basket weaving demonstrations, Tsugaru-nuri lacquerware polishing experiences, and rickshaw rides at Kita-no-Kaku.

The event takes place from August 21 to August 28.
- *August 21**: Opening Ceremony, Drone Show, Fireworks, and Illuminations (16:00–22:00)
- *August 22 & 23**: Tenshu Hikimodoshi Experience, Food Stalls, Japanese Boat & Canoe Tours, and Tug-of-War (9:30–17:00)
- *August 24–28**: Opening of the 'Pseudo-Hikimodoshi' photo spot
Venue & Access
The venue is Hirosaki Park (around the Castle Keep and the entire park area).
- *By Bus**: From JR Hirosaki Station, take the Dotemachi Loop Bus (100 yen) and get off at 'Shiyakusho-mae' (City Hall), followed by a 3-minute walk.
- *By Car**: Approximately 30 minutes from the Ou-Hirosaki IC on the Tohoku Expressway.

Pro-Tips for a Great Visit
- *Enjoy the Nighttime Shows**: The night of August 21 is the main event for projection mapping and the drone show. We recommend bringing a light jacket as temperatures may drop at night.
- *Check Reservations**: Since the Tenshu Hikimodoshi experience may require advance application via a lottery, please check the official website in advance.
- *Plan for Crowds**: On the night of the 21st, there may be traffic restrictions or entry limits due to the drone flight. Please allow extra time for travel.
What to Bring & Etiquette
For a Comfortable Visit
- *Baggage**: On August 21, between 15:00 and 18:00, security checks (including metal detectors) will be conducted when entering the Honmaru area. Please use coin lockers for large luggage and keep your hand luggage to a minimum.
- *Prohibited Items**: Sharp objects (scissors, cutters, knives, etc.) are strictly prohibited. Only unopened beverages are allowed.
- *Clothing**: As there are many outdoor activities and walking involved, comfortable clothing is highly recommended.
- *Health & Safety**: Please refrain from visiting if you have a fever or cough. For safety, large flags or banners are restricted within the venue.
