Event Overview

Shimizu in Shizuoka is home to the legendary Miho no Matsubara, a scenic coastline famous for its pine groves. The Hagoromo Festival is a cultural event inspired by the legend of the Celestial Robe (Hagoromo) and established to honor the French dancer Madame Hélène Juglaris, who dedicated her passion to this land. The 43rd annual festival in 2026 will be held at the Shizuoka City Shimizu Cultural Center Marinart. This special event offers a chance to experience Japanese traditional beauty through Noh performances by local youth, historical ceremonies, and the mystical atmosphere of Takinogaku (firelight Noh).

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The main highlight is the 'Miho Hagoromo Takinogaku,' a performance that brings the legend of the Celestial Robe to life through a mesmerizing, ethereal world. You can also enjoy 'Miho Kodomo Noh' performed by local junior high school students and songs by the Shizuoka Miho Hagoromo Choir, showcasing how traditions are passed down through generations. Additionally, the ceremony honoring Madame Hélène, including flower offerings, provides a touching glimpse into the cultural connection between Japan and France.
