Yokota Air Base Friendship Day is a major annual event held at Yokota Air Base in Fussa, Tokyo, to promote friendship between Japan and the United States. This is a unique opportunity to enter the base, which is normally closed to the public. Experience a vibrant fusion of American culture and Japanese hospitality with displays of US and JASDF aircraft, American-style food stalls, live music, and a spectacular fireworks display on the final day.
The biggest draw is the chance to see military aircraft up close. You can take photos of impressive fighter jets and transport planes or observe their massive structures from a short distance. The food scene is equally exciting; enjoy authentic American-style snacks, MREs (Meals Ready-to-Eat), and Spam-based dishes, making you feel like you've stepped right into a US military base. There are also various attractions for children, making it a perfect outing for families. Don't miss the grand finale: a beautiful fireworks display held at the end of the final day.
The event is held on May 22. Typically, this event takes place over consecutive Saturdays and Sundays in May. The event takes place inside Yokota Air Base. Entry is through the "5th Gate." The nearest station is Ushihama Station on the JR Ome Line. Please be aware that strict identity verification is required to enter the base.
