The Yatsushiro National Fireworks Competition is one of Western Japan's most prestigious pyrotechnic events, held in Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture. This competition brings together Japan's top-tier fireworks masters to showcase their incredible artistry. With approximately 14,000 shells launched, the spectacle includes high-precision competitive fireworks, music-synchronized displays, and cutting-edge drone shows. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Kuma River, it is a truly spectacular way to experience the artistry of Japanese fireworks.
The main attraction is the "Competitive Fireworks" segment, where elite pyrotechnicians compete for perfection. Each shell is a masterpiece of precision and beauty, creating art in the night sky. You can also enjoy the fusion of tradition and technology through "Music Fireworks," where bursts are perfectly timed to music, and modern drone shows. Around the venue, local food stalls and product markets will be active, allowing you to soak up the festive atmosphere while enjoying local Kumamoto delicacies.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026. The event proceeds in light rain; however, in the case of severe weather or rising river levels that pose a risk to the launch site, the event will be postponed to Saturday, November 7.
The venue is the Kuma River Green Space (upstream of Shin-Hagihara Bridge) in Yatsiro City, Kumamoto.
Road conditions near the venue:
There are two types of viewing areas: free zones and paid reserved seating. Free viewing areas are located downstream of Shin-Hagihara Bridge and along the riverside road on the opposite bank. For those wanting a closer, more immersive experience, we highly recommend purchasing paid reserved seats. Depending on the seat type, amenities vary from chairs to designated areas with blue tarps. Please check the details in advance to choose the style that suits you best.
