"Sanuki Takamatsu Matsuri" is a historic community-driven summer festival that began in 1957. The heart of Takamatsu City, Kagawa, transforms into a vibrant celebration of energy with the "So-odori" traditional dance and a massive fireworks display. The climax, the "Dondon Takamatsu Fireworks Display," takes place near the Tamamo Seawall at Takamatsu Port. With approximately 6,000 fireworks launched, it is one of the largest-scale events in the Shikoku region, drawing locals and tourists alike to witness the city's most brilliant season.
The festival's greatest charm is the fusion of traditional dance and modern fireworks. During the "Kimai Emai" (dance and music) segments, performers in striking, colorful costumes energize the streets with dynamic movements. The fireworks expanding over the beautiful scenery of Takamatsu Port are truly breathtaking. The area near the Takamatsu Port ferry terminal is a popular "Instagrammable spot" where you can capture the fireworks alongside ships and ferries. You can also enjoy a variety of local street food from numerous food stalls, soaking in the festive atmosphere.

Preparation is key to a comfortable experience. Since the fireworks start after 20:00, we recommend arriving near the venue by early evening. Areas like Chuo Park and Sunport Takamatsu become very crowded, so securing a spot early is essential. As August in Takamatsu is extremely hot, please take heatstroke precautions. Buying food and drinks at stalls early is also a smart way to avoid the peak crowds.
