The Suigo Sahara Ayame Festival is a beautiful celebration marking the arrival of early summer at Suigo Sahara Ayame Park in Katori, Chiba. Across 6 hectares of lush landscape, you will find a vibrant sea of purple, white, pink, and blue Iris flowers. With approximately 1.5 million blooms and 400 varieties, this collection is celebrated as one of the finest in the East. It is a deeply atmospheric event where natural beauty meets Japanese tradition.
The main draw is the overwhelming spectacle of color created by the massive number of Iris flowers. For a truly special experience, take a 'Sappa-bune' boat tour through the park's waterways to see the flowers from a unique water-level perspective. The festival also features live performances of traditional Sawara Hayashi music and local folk arts, as well as elegant 'Yomeiri-bune' (wedding-style boats) and Nodate (outdoor tea ceremonies), allowing you to immerse yourself in Japanese seasonal culture.
The main event date is May 29. Please note that during the festival period (May 29 to June 27), operating hours differ from the standard schedule.
The event is held at Suigo Sahara Ayame Park, located within the Suigo Tsukuba Quasi-National Park.
Since this is a riverside event, we recommend a relaxed pace to enjoy the seasonal breeze. The Sappa-bune boat tour (approx. 10 mins) and traditional music performances are highly recommended for a multi-sensory experience.
