Shinmei Fireworks Display
5 min readEvent Overview
The Shinmei Fireworks Display is a traditional event held every year on August 7 in Ichikawamisato, Yamanashi Prefecture. This region is historically famous for producing 'Ichikawa Washi' paper and was once a vital site for producing signal fires (noroshi) for the Takeda clan during the Warring States period. The expertise in fire-related technology from this era is considered the cultural root of today's fireworks. Since its revival in 1989 as a 'Town of Fireworks,' it has grown into Yamanashi's largest scale event, featuring an incredible 20,000+ fireworks.
Highlights & How to Enjoy
The main attraction is the overwhelming scale of the display, with over 20,000 fireworks filling the sky with artful light. The sheer volume of the display is breathtaking. Notably, the beauty of this event has even garnered international attention, including a story of an Omani Ambassador being deeply moved by the spectacle. Come and experience a unique cultural fusion where ancient fire-making traditions have evolved into a modern, dazzling light show.
