The Satsuma Kuroshio "Kibarankai" Makurazaki Port Festival is one of the largest summer festivals in Southern Satsuma, with a history dating back to August 1951. It is held to pray for safe voyages, bountiful catches, successful harvests, and the prosperity of local industries. This event allows visitors to feel the vibrant energy and traditions of the region through traditional dances and powerful ceremonial processions.
The absolute highlight of this festival is the "Sanjaku-dama" firework, one of the largest in the Kyushu region. The sight of these massive shells, along with a total of 10,000 fireworks illuminating the night sky with overwhelming light and sound, is truly mesmerizing. The festival also features brass band performances, dance, the powerful Hi-no-Kami Taiko drumming, and the energetic "So-odori" group dance and "Tairyo Mikoshi" (abundance processions). In the evening, you can enjoy local delicacies like Fisherman's Hot Pot (Ryoshi Nabe) and Bonito Tataki (seared bonito) through special food offerings, making it a feast for both the eyes and the palate.
The festival takes place over two days.

The Tairyo Mikoshi procession and various stage performances will take place. From the evening onwards, enjoy food offerings such as Fisherman's Hot Pot and Bonito Tataki, leading up to the festival's climax: the fireworks display. The venue is the area around Makurazaki Port. As heavy traffic is expected around the port, we recommend using public transportation or checking your route in advance.
