The Nagoya Festival is a major historical celebration held in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Originally established in 1955 as the Nagoya Commerce and Industry Festival, it honors the legendary figures who shaped the history of the region while boosting local commerce. It is a massive, high-energy event that attracts over 2 million visitors annually.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The absolute highlight is the "Kyodo Eiketsu Gyoretsu" (Local Heroes Parade). Participants dressed as the three great unifiers of Japan—Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu—march a grand route from Nagoya Station toward Nagoya Castle. The sight of Nobunaga on horseback is particularly powerful and dramatic. You can also see the elegant presence of the three ladies (Nōhime, Nene, and Senhime) accompanying the heroes.

In addition to the historical procession, the festival features live performances by local idols, creating a unique atmosphere where traditional history meets modern entertainment.

Schedule

The festival is held on the Saturdays and Sundays of early October each year. Please note that the event may be canceled or rescheduled depending on major regional events like the Asian Para Games.
