The Minakuchi Hikiyama Festival is a grand annual ritual held at Minakuchi Shrine in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. This historic festival, which has been celebrated since the Edo period, is designated as an intangible folk cultural property of Shiga. It features the procession of 'Hikiyama'—massive, elaborately carved floats that resemble moving shrines. Reflecting the town's history as a prosperous post station along the old Tokaido road, the festival blends the sight of heavy, majestic floats with the soulful melodies of traditional Minakuchi Hayashi music.

The festival takes place annually on April 20. The schedule is as follows:

• *April 19 (Yoimiya Festival)**: The evening before the main event, lanterns are lit and festive music fills the streets, building anticipation for the next day.
• *April 20 (Main Festival Day)**: In the morning, the Hikiyama floats and Matoi Dengaku performers depart from their respective neighborhoods toward Minakuchi Shrine. After arriving at the shrine for sacred rituals and deity processions, the floats return to the town in the evening as the 'Kaeriyama' (return floats) illuminated by lanterns.
