The Michinoku YOSAKOI Festival is a high-energy YOSAKOI-style celebration held in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. Originally inspired by the Kochi Yosakoi festivals in 1997, it has grown into a major national event. Teams from all over Japan—from Hokkaido to the Kansai region—gather to perform, making it a signature autumn event for the city. The festival creates a vibrant atmosphere where music and dance blend seamlessly across various urban stages.
The main draw is the dynamic dance performances by teams from across the country. The sight of dancers moving rhythmically while using Naruko-style clappers is truly breathtaking. A highlight is the 'So-odori' (Massive Community Dance) held during specific time slots, where spectators are invited to join the dancers. You can experience a sense of unity with the crowd while dancing to songs like 'Michinoku YOSKAI Odori' or 'Yochore.'
