Kuse Matsuri is a traditional festival held in the Kuse district of Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture. It is celebrated as one of the three major Danjiri festivals in the region. With a history dating back to the Genroku era, this festival builds immense energy over three days: the Yoimatsuri (Eve Festival) on October 24, the Honmatsuri (Main Festival) on October 25, and the Atomatsuri (After-festival) on October 26.
The most thrilling attraction is the 'Danjiri Kenka' (float battle). The rear of each heavy wooden float is armored with iron plates, allowing them to crash into one another with massive force. During these collisions, sparks can fly, creating an electrifying atmosphere for the crowd.
During the daytime festivities, you will see the 'Sasa Kenka' performance, where young men shout 'Oisa! Oisa!' while brandishing bamboo branches. Accompanied by traditional festival music, this high-energy display showcases the raw power and spirit of the local community.

The main procession takes place around the old national highway within the Kuse district of Maniwa City. Specific viewing areas for the float collisions and the most crowded sections will be organized based on the day's progression.
The 'Danjiri Kenka' is a high-intensity event. The night sessions offer a rare chance to see the armored floats collide and sparks fly. On the final night, don't miss the emotional finale where people climb onto the roofs of the floats for the traditional rice cake toss.
Expect heavy crowds throughout the festival, especially during the night-time collisions. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes to navigate the crowds safely. Please be mindful of the high energy and physical intensity of the event.
