Event Overview

The Kumagaya Fireworks Festival is a historic event deeply rooted in the local community, held at the Arakawa Riverbed in Kumagaya City, Saitama. Originating from the "Great Kumagaya Reconstruction Fireworks Festival" to commemorate the recovery from the 1948 Kumagaya air raids, it is one of the largest and most prestigious festivals in Saitama Prefecture. With approximately 10,000 fireworks launched, it is a major summer event in Saitama, second only to the Konosu Fireworks in scale.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The main attraction is the "Star Mine Competition," where pyrotechnicians showcase their incredible technical skills through dazzling displays. Other highlights include the powerful "Wide Star Mine" and the traditional "Nishaku-dama" (large shell) launches. You can also see "Message Fireworks," where local citizens and businesses share their thoughts through the night sky. The festival also blends tradition with innovation, often featuring modern elements like drone shows to enhance the visual experience.

Date & Schedule

The festival is held on August 13. The fireworks are scheduled to be launched from 19:00 to 21:00. Please note that the schedule may change due to weather or typhoons. Typically, if it rains, the event is postponed to the following day or week.

Venue & Access

The viewing area is the Arakawa Riverbed (located below the Kumagaya Sakura堤/Sakura-tei and Arakawa Green Space), downstream from the Arakawa Bridge. The launch site is on the opposite bank.

• *By Train**: It is approximately a 5-minute walk from Kumagaya Station. Using the JR Takasaki Line or Chichibu Railway is most convenient. Extra trains toward Omiya or Ueno may be scheduled after the event.
• *By Car**: While some shopping centers and temporary parking lots are available, most are paid. Traffic congestion is expected, so arriving early is highly recommended.
• *Important Notes**: Road closures will occur around the launch site, specifically south of the JR Takasaki/Chichibu lines and near Route 407. The Kumagaya Station South Exit rotary will also be closed; please check for bus route changes in advance.

Tips for Visitors

Because of the massive crowds, preparation is key. To avoid the rush, arrive early or consider purchasing a reserved seat. Always check the official website for the latest updates on traffic regulations, bus route changes, and special train services.

What to Bring & Etiquette

As the viewing area is a riverbed, bring a leisure sheet (picnic mat) to sit on and clothing suitable for temperature changes at night. The area becomes extremely crowded, and entry restrictions may be applied near station gates. Regarding payments, please check the availability of reserved seats in advance. Since most parking areas are paid, we recommend carrying cash.
