The Kachimai Fireworks Display is one of the largest and most prestigious fireworks festivals in Hokkaido, held annually on August 13th in Obihiro. With a history dating back to 1929, this event has evolved into a high-tech entertainment spectacle that synchronizes massive fireworks with music, fire effects, and precision laser displays. The show is structured into five distinct segments, each featuring a unique theme to keep the audience captivated.
The true highlight is the immersive experience created by computer-controlled timing, where every explosion is perfectly synced with music and laser beams. This isn't just a traditional fireworks show; it is a dynamic fusion of light and sound. The most iconic moment is the grand finale: the continuous launch of 'Nishiki Kamuro.' These are beautiful, golden-trailing fireworks that fill the entire night sky, creating a breathtaking and emotional conclusion to the night. It is a perfect blend of traditional artistry and cutting-edge technology.
The event is scheduled for August 13, 2026. The main fireworks display typically runs from 19:30 to 20:45. Please note that August 14 and August 17 are designated as reserve dates in case of inclement weather. While some past years have extended the program until 21:00 for special shows, you can generally expect the main event to follow the standard timeframe.
The venue is a special viewing area located downstream from the Tokachi Ohashi Bridge in Obihiro. Please be aware that the local police implement very strict traffic controls and road closures on the day of the event. Parking in the vicinity is strictly prohibited, and many surrounding streets will be inaccessible to vehicles. We highly recommend using public transportation or planning your arrival well in advance to avoid travel disruptions.
To enjoy the spectacular show in a premium environment, paid seating is available. While prices can vary by location, recent years have seen a standardized price of approximately 4,000 JPY per person. Please note that 'pre-occupying' seats is strictly forbidden; this means setting up tents, ropes, or leaving unattended mats/sheets is not allowed and may result in removal by staff. Please follow all local rules to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
As this is a summer night event, please dress comfortably for warm weather. The event maintains a strict 'carry-in, carry-out' policy for trash; please do not leave any food wrappers, mats, or tape behind. Additionally, camping in nearby parks or vacant lots is prohibited. For the most up-to-date information on reserved seating and specific event rules, please consult the official website.
