5 min read

Event Overview

The Kagoshima Kinkowan Summer Night Grand Fireworks Display is one of Kyushu's most spectacular summer traditions. Hosted by Kagoshima City, this massive event features approximately 15,000 fireworks launched against the backdrop of the iconic Sakurajima volcano and the calm waters of Kinkowan Bay. It is a breathtaking fusion of Japan's natural volcanic beauty and high-impact pyrotechnic artistry.

Highlights & How to Enjoy

The true magic lies in the scale of the production. Look forward to high-intensity displays, such as rapid-fire sequences of 1-shaku shells and the rare, luxurious simultaneous launch of 2-shaku shells. For a truly unique perspective, you can also enjoy the display from a sightseeing cruise on the water, watching the lights dance over the ocean surface. It is a sensory masterpiece of light and sound.

Schedule

This event is held on a Saturday in late August every year. Please check the official website for the specific date and time for the current year's schedule.

Venue & Access

The main viewing area is around the Kagoshima Port Honko area. Please note that significant traffic restrictions will be in place around the venue, particularly near the Aquarium and Minami Pier.

Access via Public Transportation

  • *From JR Kagoshima-Chuo Station**: It is most convenient to take the City Tram (streetcar) or a dedicated shuttle bus. Special extra services and paid shuttle buses are expected to run on the day of the event.
