Tsukihajimatsuri is a significant Shinto ritual held at Izumo Taisha to celebrate the start of a new month. This traditional ceremony, which expresses gratitude and prayers for the month ahead, has been cherished and passed down through generations.
Highlights & Experience
The highlight of this event is witnessing the solemn Shinto rituals performed at the Honden (Main Sanctuary) of Izumi Taisha. Through these ceremonies led by Shinto priests, you can feel the deep-rooted spiritual connection to nature and the lunar cycle. The serene atmosphere of the shrine grounds makes this a unique opportunity to experience the quiet dignity of Japanese spiritual culture.
Schedule
The ritual takes place on June 1st. The ceremony is held at the Honden (Main Sanctuary). Please note that the specific timing of the ritual may vary depending on the day's circumstances, so we recommend checking local announcements on-site.
Venue & Access
The event is held within the Izumo Taisha shrine grounds. Please choose the best transport method based on your starting point:
*By Train**: Ichibata Isawari Line to Izumo Taisha-mae Station is the most convenient. The shrine is within walking distance from the station, allowing you to enjoy the atmosphere of Shimonimi-dori street.
*By JR Line**: Use Izumo City Station as your base. Since JR lines do not go directly to the shrine, you will need to transfer to a local bus or the Ichibata Railway.

*By Car**: Follow signs for the Izumo IC to access the area via local roads. Parking is available near the shrine.
