This historic fireworks display marks the grand opening of the Ichinoseki Natsu Matsuri, a beloved summer tradition in Ichinoseki, Iwate Prefecture. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Iwaigawa River, the event features approximately 10,000 fireworks. As the entire town is illuminated with colorful Tanabata decorations and traditional lanterns, you can fully immerse yourself in the festive spirit while watching the powerful star mines light up the night sky.
The main attraction is the massive display of roughly 10,000 fireworks launched over a 75-minute period. The dynamic star mine sequences are particularly breathtaking, offering a close-up view of an incredible art piece made of light. Before the fireworks begin, we recommend strolling through the local shopping streets to admire the elaborate Tanabata decorations and enjoy various food stalls (yatai) to experience the authentic atmosphere of a Japanese summer festival.
The display takes place during the Ichinoseki Natsu Matsuri period. Typically, the fireworks are held on the first night of the festival period in early August (Friday to Sunday).
