Ibi Matsuri is a traditional festival held in Ibi-gawa Town, Gifu Prefecture, boasting a rich history of over 300 years. Held every May, this event is a vital cultural cornerstone of the region. The festival is best known for its magnificent, elaborately decorated 'Yama' floats and traditional ceremonial dances.
The centerpiece of the festival is the sight of five grand 'Yama' floats gathered within the grounds of Miwa Shrine. Their intricate decorations and imposing presence are truly awe-inspiring. Another must-see is the 'Kodomo Kabuki' (Children's Kabuki) performed on the floats; the graceful, emotional performances by local children have captivated audiences for generations. Combined with the energetic procession of portable shrines (Mikoshi), the festival offers a vibrant look into Japanese local traditions.
