Hojo Sekku Matsuri, held around Sumiyoshi Jinja in Kasai City, Hyogo, is a spectacular spring festival celebrated for its blend of elegance and power. As one of the three major festivals of the Harima region, it boasts a deep historical legacy. Visitors are greeted by the sight of exquisitely decorated Keshō-yatai (ornate floats) and spirited Mikoshi (portable shrines) being carried through the streets, accompanied by ancient Shinto rituals that create a truly grand atmosphere.
The main draw of this festival is the sheer visual splendor of the floats and shrines. Watching the highly detailed Keshō-yatai floats parade through the streets toward the shrine is a breathtaking experience. Additionally, you can enjoy high-level traditional performing arts such as the Ryuo-mai (Dragon King Dance), the historic Tori-awase, and the graceful Urashina-mai.
