The Hino Shinsengumi Matsuri is a historic festival held in Hino City, Tokyo, the birthplace of the legendary Shinsengumi vice-commander Toshizo Hijikata. The event is held annually around May 11, the anniversary of Hijikata's death, to honor and preserve the spirit and history of the Shinsengumi. Since its inception in 1998, it has become a beloved event for Shinsengumi enthusiasts and history lovers alike.
The biggest highlight is the "Shinsengumi Member Parade," where participants dressed as Shinsengumi warriors march through the streets. The sight of them advancing with powerful battle cries offers a thrilling glimpse into the intensity of the Bakumatsu era. Another must-see is the "Shinsengumi Member Contest," featuring high-energy performances by selected participants from across the country. You can also enjoy the "Quarters Tour," a stamp rally that allows you to explore the local streets while learning about the historical lifestyle of the era.
