The Chodai Hachiman-gu Autumn Festival is a deeply rooted traditional autumn celebration in the Murozumi area of Hikari City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The festival features 10 elaborately decorated floats (dashi) and dynamic dancing floats (odai) that parade through the streets of Murozumi. It is a spirited and high-energy event that symbolizes the strength and unity of the local community.
The main highlight of this festival is the breathtaking procession of magnificent floats through the town. Watching the heavy floats, adorned with gold decorations and beautiful lanterns, being pulled through the streets by people in traditional attire is a truly impressive sight. The lively energy of the dancing floats further heightens the excitement. This is a rare opportunity to experience the raw power and traditional beauty of a local Japanese community's heritage.
The festival will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025. This traditional event is typically held in early October each year.
The event takes place at Chodai Hachiman-gu.
Since the floats parade through the streets, we recommend watching from along the procession route to get the best view of the powerful movement of the floats and the vibrant festival atmosphere.
