The Nakazaike Hanamatsuri is a traditional folk performance with a history spanning over 700 years, preserved in the Nakazaike district of Toei Town, Aichi Prefecture. As a designated National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, it serves as a vital symbol of the region's rich history and culture. Despite the small local population, this festival is kept alive through strong community bonds and support from other regions, offering a profound sense of local passion.
The greatest draw of this festival is its overwhelming intensity. The vigorous movements of the Sakaki-oni (demon) dancers and the soul-stirring, powerful rhythms of the Yu-bayashi music will instantly transport you into a different world. The sight of performers wearing traditional masks and moving with such dynamic energy is truly breathtaking. We invite you to experience this high-energy atmosphere, which encapsulates the very essence of Japanese spiritual culture.

The venue is the community center, Meishuso (老人憩いの家 明寿荘). Please note that parking space is extremely limited on the day of the event. If you are traveling by car, we highly recommend carpooling or traveling in groups to minimize the impact on local parking.
This festival is a precious tradition carefully protected by the local community. While there is no formal entrance fee, visitors are asked to provide a contribution called 'Hanamimai' to support the festival's operations, the training of successors, and the maintenance of ritual tools. These donations can be made at the 'Kaisho' (reception area) on-site, and local tokens of appreciation are often provided.
There is no entrance fee, but a donation (Hanamimai) of approximately 3,000 JPY per person is requested to support the festival's preservation. Donations are accepted at the 'Kaisho' area within the venue.
As the festival takes place outdoors at night during December, please dress in heavy winter clothing to stay warm. Since parking is limited, using public transportation or carpooling is highly recommended.
