5 min readEvent Overview
Hanamatsuri (Furudo) is a traditional folk performing art passed down in Toei Town, Aichi Prefecture, for over 700 years. Designated as a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property, this festival is a vital piece of local history. The spectacle features the "Mainiva"—a stunning display of colorful decorations using five-colored paper strips called "Yubuta" and "Soibana"—alongside the "Zazechi," a ritual set meticulously crafted according to ancient historical documents. It is a rare opportunity to witness a living piece of history.
Highlights & Experience
The true magic of the festival lies in the fusion of profound historical weight and powerful, rhythmic dance. The vibrant, five-colored decorations create a visually stunning atmosphere that transforms the space into something truly sacred. Thanks to the passion of the local preservation society, who strictly follow ancient texts to recreate the original forms, you will feel as though you have stepped back in time to a mystical, energetic era of old Japan.
