The Gokuro Matsuri is a beloved local tradition in Yoshinogawa, Tokushima, established in 1972 to honor the legacy of Soga noie Gokuro, a famous comedian born in Kamojima. This festive event brings the community together with a lively atmosphere centered around the Chuo-dori street near JR Kamojima Station. The streets come alive with energy, celebrating both history and local culture.
The main attraction is the spirited parade featuring participants dressed as the legendary Soga noie Gokuro. Watching the procession in traditional attire creates a nostalgic and charming atmosphere unique to this region. Beyond the parade, the street is lined with numerous food stalls (yatai), allowing you to soak in the quintessential Japanese festival experience through delicious snacks and a lively night stroll.
The festival is scheduled for June 27, 2027. The main festivities run from 17:00 to 21:00. Please note that in the event of inclement weather, the schedule may be postponed to the following day.
The event takes place at Chuo-dori in front of JR Kamojima Station, Yoshinogawa City, Tokoshima. Access is extremely convenient via public transport; the venue is located just a short walk from JR Kamojima Station on the JR Tokushima Line, making it an easy trip for travelers using trains.
