Fussa Tanabata Festival is one of Tokyo's most historic Tanabata celebrations, centered around the west exit of Fussa Station. Established in 1951 to promote the local shopping district, it has grown into a beloved community event. While it was once held in August, it is now traditionally held in July. The entire area is transformed by colorful decorations, offering a quintessential glimpse into a traditional Japanese summer.
The festival's most iconic feature is the unique "wall decorations" (hekimen kazari). The vibrant bamboo and paper ornaments adorning the walls of local shops create a stunning visual spectacle perfect for photography. You can also enjoy the lively atmosphere of the many food stalls and local vendors lining the streets. The area known as "Galaxy Street" is the heart of the festivities. The event is further enriched by the sounds of traditional Fussa Ondo music, colorful parades, and various local contests.
