Fukui Phoenix Fireworks
5 min readEvent Overview
The Fukui Phoenix Fireworks is a historic event that kicks off the Fukui Phoenix Matsuri, the largest summer festival in Fukui City. It is famous for its unique style of launching fireworks directly within the city, allowing spectators to feel the immense power and vibration of the display from a very close distance. The 2026 event marks the 73rd edition of this tradition.
Highlights & How to Enjoy
The greatest draw is the sheer sense of immersion. Because the fireworks are launched within the urban landscape, you can feel the intensity of the display up close. The night sky is painted with vibrant colors, culminating in a breathtaking finale that leaves audiences mesmerated.
Date & Schedule
The event is scheduled for Friday, July 31, 2026.
- *Start Time**: 19:30 (Scheduled)
- *End Time**: 20:00
Venue & Access
The venue is the Asuwa Riverbank (between Kida Bridge and Itagaki Bridge). The viewing area is divided into three sections:
- â‘ Kida Bridge Upstream Right Bank
- â‘¡ Kida Bridge Upstream Left Bank
- â‘¢ Itagaki Bridge Downstream Right Bank
Access: Approximately a 10-minute walk from the East Exit of JR Fukui Station. Please note that traffic restrictions will be in place on surrounding roads from 18:30 to 21:00, and access to the immediate launch site area will be prohibited. Parking is expected to be extremely limited, so we strongly recommend using public transportation or arriving on foot.
Tips for Visitors
Crowd levels and facilities vary by location. Section â‘ (Kida Bridge Upstream Right Bank) is typically very crowded and may implement entry restrictions. For a more relaxed experience, Section â‘¢ (Itagaki Bridge Downstream Right Bank) is recommended, as it tends to have more space and features food stalls and temporary restrooms.
Essentials & Etiquette

- *Payment**: We recommend bringing cash, as it is the primary method for purchasing items from local food stalls.
- *Etiquette**: Please be mindful of those around you due to the expected crowds. To prevent heatstroke, if you feel unwell, please contact nearby staff or visit a first-aid tent.
