Event Overview

The Chikugogawa Fireworks Display is one of the largest-scale fireworks events in Western Japan, held along the Chikugo River in Kurume, Fukuoka. Its history dates back to 1650, originating from a ceremonial firework display by the Lord of the Kurume Clan to celebrate the completion of the Suiten-gu Shrine. This prestigious event attracts crowds every year to witness the overwhelming-scale fireworks that illuminate the night sky.

Don't miss the massive 'Shakudama' shells that bloom like giant flowers, the rhythmic 'Star Mines' that fire in rapid succession to music, and the breathtaking 'Niagara' waterfall effects. Venue & Access

The event is held along the Chikugo River banks with several viewing areas:

  • *Kyomachi Area**: Near Futatsen Bridge and Nagatoishi Bridge (within walking distance from JR Kurume Station).
  • *Sasayama Area**: Near Nagatoishi Bridge and Mamezu Bridge (accessible via temporary shuttle buses from Nishitetsu Kurume Station).
  • *Other Points**: Various viewing spots are available in the Nagatoishi, Miyaki, Komono, and Tosu areas.

Strict traffic regulations will be in place. Vehicle access to the riverside roads between Kurume Ohashi and Mamezu Bridge will be restricted from 18:30 to approximately 22:00. No parking is available on-site; please use public transportation. Access from JR Kurume Station is possible on foot.

Tips for Visitors

The venue is very large with multiple viewing sections (Kyomachi, Sasayama, etc.). The view and intensity of the fireworks may vary depending on your location. If you plan to enjoy the food stalls, it is highly recommended to carry small change.
