The Chichibu Ondo Matsuri is a traditional summer festival held annually in Minano Town, Saitama, the historic birthplace of the Chichibu Ondo dance. With a history dating back approximately 200 years to the Bunsei era, this festival is celebrated as one of the three major folk songs of the Kanto region. It is a vibrant summer tradition where the rhythmic melodies of Chichibu Ondo bring the community together.
The main highlight is the "Nagashi Odori Competition," held along the Honcho shopping street and the festival plaza in front of the town hall. Every year, many dancers from across the prefecture and beyond gather to parade through the streets to the powerful beat of Taiko drums. As the night reaches its climax, large-scale fireworks, including Shaku-dama shells and star mines, are launched from Mt. Mi to paint the summer sky in brilliant colors.
You can also explore the "Time Slip Yokocho" area, a nostalgic zone featuring local soul food and traditional Japanese street snacks, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a classic Japanese festival.
The festival will be held on August 14, 2026. The main schedule is as follows:
The festivities are centered around the Festival Plaza in front of the Minano Town Hall and the Honcho Shopping Street.
