The Asahikawa Winter Festival is a signature winter celebration held annually in early February in Asahikawa, Hokkaido. Established in 1960, this event is one of the most significant winter festivals in Japan, rivaling the scale of the Sapporo Snow Festival. The main venue along the banks of the Ishikari River features breathtaking, massive snow sculptures crafted with the cooperation of the JGSDF (Japan Ground Self-Defense Force). Additionally, sub-venues like Heiwa-dori Shopping Park and Tokiwa Park host international ice carving competitions and the enchanting "Asahikawa Snow Light" displays, turning the entire city into a luminous winter art gallery.
