The "American Festival & Bon Odori" is a celebrated open-post event held at the US Navy Atsugi Naval Air Facility (Atsugi Base). This annual event serves as a cornerstone for US-Japan friendship and cultural exchange. Since its first occurrence in 1959, it has become a beloved tradition. This is a rare opportunity to step inside a US military base and experience a unique blend of American atmosphere and traditional Japanese festival culture.
The main highlight of this event is the Bon Odori (traditional dance) performed alongside US Navy personnel. You can enjoy high-energy performances by the US Navy Atsugi Bon Odori Dancers and authentic Awa Odori dances by Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force teams, showcasing a vibrant mix of both cultures. Food lovers can explore various food trucks and booths serving American classics like pizza, steak, and hamburgers. The evening concludes with a breathtaking fireworks display that lights up the night sky, providing a spectacular finale to the festivities.
