The Daitoku-ji Korin-in Autumn Special Opening is a special event held at Korin-in, a sub-temple of the historic Daitoku-ji in Kyoto. Founded in the 1520s by the Hatakeyama clan of Noto, Korin-in has deep historical connections to the Maeda clan, who once repaired the main hall's roof.
During this opening, you can see the elegant Hinoki-bark thatched gate and the main hall, a masterpiece of Muromachi-period Zen architecture. A major highlight is the karesansui (dry landscape) garden, featuring bold stone arrangements in the Momoyama style, restored by the renowned garden designer Nakane Kinsaku. It is a rare opportunity to experience the harmony of historic architecture and meticulously designed gardens.
The main draw is the seamless fusion of historic structures and landscape. The main hall, designated as an Important Cultural Property, preserves the profound atmosphere of Muromachi-period Zen architecture. In front of the hall lies the karesansui garden, where the powerful stone arrangements represent the mythical Horai paradise. The scenery changes beautifully with the seasons, offering a new perspective every time you visit.
Additionally, the tea room 'Kankyo-tei' will be open to the public. You can experience the spirit of Zen through the culture of tea within this tranquil space. Immerse yourself in the traditional Japanese aesthetic of architecture, gardens, and tea ceremonies amidst the autumn colors.
