Daijoji Sanjuban Kamimatsuri is a traditional festival with a long history, recognized as one of the 'Seven Great Gujo Odori Festivals' from the Edo period. The event takes place along Honmachi Street in Gujo Hachiman, Gifu Prefecture. A signature feature of this festival is the massive lanterns hanging above the street, featuring the character '踊' (Dance) written by the calligrapher Noda Hakuto. These large lanterns are a quintessential symbol of summer in Gujo Hachiman.
The greatest charm of this festival is the combination of the historic scenery of Honmachi Street and the large lanterns floating in the night sky.
